What 𐝒 means
No single value is secure. 𐝒 is a compound fraction sign whose conventional Latin-letter transcription is BB; A715 is its catalogue index. In Linear A notation, fraction signs follow a commodity sign or whole-number amount and combine additively to express the quantity. Corazza et al.'s 2021 comparison of earlier proposals lists 1/12, a tentative 2/3, and 2/5 for BB. Treat 2/5 as one proposal, not an established conversion.
How did Linear A use fractions?
Fractions marked quantities, especially goods. Clay tablets tracked goods moving into and out of storerooms. Repeated formulas on stone offering tables are understood as religious texts. Linear A developed on Crete under influence from neighboring writing systems and alongside Cretan Hieroglyphic, a separate picture-based script. Linear B later adapted much of Linear A's system to write Greek.
