What 𐘁 means

No. “Ro” is a proposed syllable value, not a translation. AB 02 is treated as a sign for a syllable. Its “ro” reading is inferred from a matching Linear B sign; some sign references also give “lo.” Neither label tells you what a Minoan word meant, because Linear A’s language remains undeciphered.

Where did Linear A come from?

Linear A took shape on Crete in Middle Minoan IIA. That phase is dated around 1800 BCE. Palaeographic studies trace some of its signs, including AB 02, to Cretan Hieroglyphic, an earlier writing system used on Crete.

Most surviving records are administrative: clay tablets, small round clay pieces called roundels, and clay seal impressions record transactions. Other inscriptions appear on vessels and metal objects in ritual or practical settings. Those uses describe the script, not a fixed meaning for AB 02.

What does it mean when someone sends 𐘁?

Treat a standalone send as a script specimen until context says more. If someone sends AB002 by itself, ask what they mean rather than assuming it is a translated Minoan word.

Linear B later wrote Mycenaean Greek and shares some signs with Linear A. A Linear B value can suggest a reading for AB 02, but it does not establish how the Minoan sign worked.

Historically specific and specialist-coded; alone in a modern message, it reads as a reference to ancient writing.

“Ro” is a proposed syllable value, not a Minoan translation.

Why does 𐘁 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
