What 𐀟 means

Use a Unicode input method; the steps depend on your device.

As of 2026-09-14, GNOME/GTK uses CtrlShiftU, then 1001F and Space or Enter; Word or Outlook on Windows uses 1001F followed by AltX. On macOS, Unicode Hex Input does not handle characters above UFFFF; use Character Viewer or another input method.

Unicode assigns a character, but the selected font must draw its glyph. If a box appears, the font or rendering system lacks a Linear B glyph; that does not change the character or its reading.

What does 𐀟 mean?

𐀟 is the Linear B syllabogram conventionally read “pe.”

Linear B syllabograms represent one vowel or a consonant-plus-vowel unit. The Latin-letter spelling “pe” is a conventional transliteration: it labels the sign’s sound rather than giving a separate word meaning. Linear B wrote Mycenaean Greek, an early Greek language used in Bronze Age palace records.

By itself in a modern message, 𐀟 names an ancient-script sign but gives no reliable mood cue. Ask the sender for context if the point matters.

Where did Linear B come from?

Linear B adapted much of its sign repertoire from the earlier Linear A script.

The oldest known Linear B archive is the Room of the Chariot Tablets at Knossos, a palace site on Crete; it dates from the end of the 15th century BCE to the beginning of the 14th century BCE.

Linear B served palace administration: officials used clay tablets, labels, small clay pieces called nodules, and jars to track goods, transactions, and associated people or places. The surviving records come from Crete and mainland Greece. The later Cypriot syllabary, another system for writing Greek by syllables, belongs to a related Aegean tradition but uses different consonant distinctions and writing direction. That historical link does not make 𐀟 a Cypriot character.

Archival and specialist; it reads like a script reference, not a casual reaction.

A lone 𐀟 gives no reliable mood cue.

Questions people ask

3

Why does 𐀟 show as a box?

A missing glyph, not a different character. Unicode assigns the character, but your selected font and rendering system must provide a Linear B glyph.

Is 𐀟 Linear A?

No. 𐀟 is a Linear B sign. Linear A is the earlier Aegean script from which Linear B adapted much of its sign repertoire.

Is 𐀟 an emoji?

No. It is a text character in an ancient script, not an emoji.
