What 𝚨 means
With unicode-math, use \mbfAlpha in XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX.
The command names this Greek mathematical letter directly. In an editor that accepts Unicode math input, enter the literal character 𝚨.
What does 𝚨 mean in a formula?
It is Greek capital Alpha in a distinct bold math style.
The style can distinguish this variable from plain Alpha, but it does not assign a fixed quantity. Some physics and applied-math conventions use bold for vectors; follow the writer’s notation key to see what this Alpha denotes.
A 1999 Unicode proposal records mathematical alphabet variants already used in scientific and technical publishing. Separate character codes preserve distinctions that a change of style can carry in math.
Can 𝚨 stand in for bold text?
It can imitate formatting, but it remains a Greek letter.
Unicode’s math report dated 2026-09-10 notes a use for bold text in social posts without formatting: mathematical alphabet characters can stand in for rich-text styling when it is unavailable.
Technical in formulas; its exact role comes from the document’s notation.
𝚨 and bold Latin A may look identical; check which letter the formula defines.
