What 𝓒 means
In Word for Windows, type 1D4D2 and press Alt+X.
Mathematical letter styles can identify different symbols, so a styled C may stand for something distinct from plain C. A proposal for the STIX math-font project in 1999 asked Unicode to encode these alphabets so plain-text formulas could preserve such distinctions. Some letter-shaped mathematical symbols already had separate entries; the expanded alphabets linked them to the fuller sets.
What does 𝓒 mean in a formula?
The formula defines its value; the letter style marks its identity.
Script capitals are among the mathematical styles used for operators, functions, and transforms. That describes a family of notation, not one fixed meaning for 𝓒; read the surrounding formula.
If you see 𝓒 turn into plain C, NFKC may have been applied. This Unicode normalization folds compatibility forms to simpler text, which can erase a mathematical distinction.
Formal and mathematical; the bold script form identifies a symbol, not plain-text emphasis.
In a formula, replacing 𝓒 with plain C can merge distinct symbols.

1Questions people ask
1Will every font draw 𝓒 the same way?
No. Unicode identifies the character but does not prescribe one exact drawing, and mathematical fonts vary in their script forms. A font without support may show a replacement box.
