What 𝟋 means
Use the GNOME/GTK Unicode input sequence.
In text fields built with GTK, a toolkit used by GNOME apps, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type 1D7CB, then press Enter. This enters the bold digamma directly as one Unicode character.
What did Greek digamma originally do?
It represented the /w/ consonant in older Greek dialects.
Greek writing adapted the Phoenician letter waw—part of an older eastern Mediterranean alphabet—for /w/; English “we” begins with a similar sound. Early Greek alphabet lists show digamma in use by the eighth century BCE. The name means “double gamma,” describing a shape like two Greek gamma letters stacked.
Greek dialects lost /w/ at different times, so the letter faded from spelling at different rates; inscriptions still show it in dialect use into the second century BCE. Greek alphabetic numerals kept digamma's sixth alphabet place for six. Later, the numeral form converged with stigma, a Greek ligature joining sigma and tau.
Why does NFKC change 𝟋?
NFKC and NFKD can erase its mathematical style.
These Unicode text-cleanup forms fold mathematical alphanumeric characters to base letters; here, they turn 𝟋 into plain Greek digamma ϝ. That removes the bold distinction, so avoid NFKC/NFKD when a formula relies on this character's style.
