What 𝕩 means
It gave mathematicians a way to mark bold letters by hand. On a chalkboard, mathematicians doubled selected strokes so bold letters stood out; the style became known as blackboard bold. Printers later turned that cue into a type style. An early printed example appears in Gunning and Rossi's 1965 textbook on complex analysis, the study of functions involving complex numbers. Digital math alphabets preserve the distinction between ordinary, italic, and double-struck letters.

Questions people ask
1Why did 𝕩 turn into x?
A text-normalization form called NFKC maps it to plain x. The letter remains, but the double-struck style disappears, so differently styled mathematical variables can become indistinguishable.
