What 𖼫 means
No; it marks only the opening consonant.
Add vowel signs and a pitch cue to complete the syllable. The older spelling shows tone by moving the vowel; the 1988 revision uses separate tone letters.
Why was Pollard writing created?
To write A-Hmao and teach reading in its own language.
Work began in 1904 with Samuel Pollard and A-Hmao collaborators. First primers appeared in 1905 with hymns and Bible stories.
Pollard cited Cree syllabics, a writing system for the Cree language in Canada, as a model. By 1949, Pollard spelling had been adapted to other local languages; A-Hmao teachers and scholars also used it to record songs and stories.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖼫 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Miao block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𖼫\16F2BWhy is 𖼫 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
