What ₦ means
₦ is Nigeria’s currency mark. Its earliest verified use here is on 1973 naira denominations, labelling the decimal currency that replaced pounds and shillings. As of 2026-09-12, the reviewed sources identify no single designer or earlier form. They show no separate change in meaning: in 2007, some notes replaced Hausa Ajami with Latin-script Hausa, but that dispute concerned language on the notes, not ₦. Unicode groups it with currency signs; this does not prove historical descent.
