What ᧕ means
It means five in New Tai Lue.
Why does New Tai Lue have an older form?
The script changed; five did not. Older Tai Lue writing follows the Lanna/Tai Tham tradition and is reported in use from about 1200.
New Tai Lue arose in China in the 1950s to simplify teaching and print; its regular digits were adapted from Tai Tham’s hora set.
Some valued the easier school form; others associated older writing with Buddhist and traditional texts. As of 2025, both forms were used in China; older writing remained in use elsewhere.
A New Tai Lue numeral, not a general-purpose emoji.
Without Tai Lue context, it may not read as a number.

1Why does ᧕ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
