What 𛇓 means
A spoken syllable, not a fixed word.
Its Jiangyong reading is transcribed tshiong35; “35” marks tone, or pitch. Nüshu writes local speech, so context supplies the intended word.
When was Nüshu first recorded?
A coin predates the first written report.
Some manuscript copies date to late Ming or early Qing, two Chinese dynasties. Rural women with limited schooling adapted Chinese-character forms for letters, songs, life stories and wedding messages. A bronze coin from China’s Taiping rebellion (1851–64) is the earliest known artifact; a Hunan survey first recorded Nüshu in 1933. Local revival efforts were under way by 2018.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛇓 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
