What 𛈜 means
Nüshu blends Chinese character shapes with local signs. A study places its origin before 1704, perhaps in the late Ming or early Qing dynasties; a Hunan survey records it in the early 1930s. The origin remains debated.
It let women write local Jiangyong speech, though many could not write Chinese characters. Texts include letters and life stories, public songs, household advice and booklets given to brides three days after marriage.
