What 𛈲 means
One Nüshu reading recorded in 2026 is piou44. Its final number marks tone. Readings vary by place and time; some characters stand for words pronounced alike, so nearby text clarifies the intended word.
What was Nüshu used for?
It let women write for one another. Nüshu means “women’s writing.” With little access to formal literacy, women wrote poems, life stories, and letters between sworn sisters (friends who pledged support), along with wedding booklets for brides. These cloth-bound books arrived three days after marriage.
What is Nüshu's earliest known artifact?
It is a coin from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. This Chinese rebel state ruled during 1851–1864; its eight characters say all women belong to one family.
Nüshu adapted Chinese characters to write Jiangyong's local speech; the coin dates a surviving artifact, not the script's beginning.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛈲 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
