What 𛊤 means
It represents one syllable with several Chinese-character matches.
The dictionary transcribes its Jiangyong reading as tang42; “42” marks the tone contour, or pitch movement. It pairs 𛊤 with 迟 (“late”), 地 (“earth”), 赏 (“reward”), 同 (“same”), 堂 (“hall”), 团 (“group”) and 桃 (“peach”). Context selects the intended word.
Nüshu grew from Chinese-character forms in Jiangyong, Hunan, giving women with limited access to formal Chinese literacy a way to write local speech. The earliest known example is a bronze coin dated 1851–1864. Women used it for poems, letters, autobiographies and “third-day” wedding letters, and stitched it into embroidery. Later efforts focused on preservation and revival.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛊤 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
