nushu character-1b2d5

Nüshu Character 1B2D5

358/396

𛋕 is a Nüshu syllable sign, read i35 in Jiangyong speech rather than as a standalone idea. In traditional Jiangyong practice, women with little access to formal schooling used Nüshu for friends' letters, songs, life stories and wedding messages. The earliest known Nüshu artifact is a Taiping-era bronze coin (1851–1864), evidence of use then, not of when the script began. By 2025, heritage programs were working to preserve it.

What 𛋕 means

It represents a spoken syllable, not a fixed idea.

Nüshu is a syllabary: its characters write spoken syllables of the local Jiangyong variety. The reading notation i35 gives this sign's pronunciation; a word or line supplies its meaning. Although Nüshu drew on Chinese character forms, it is a separate system for writing local speech.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𛋕 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
