What ⑆ means
It marks a check’s bank-routing field. MICR lets bank machines read printed checks. E-13B is one MICR character set; ⑆ marks transit.
E-13B has separate marks for amount, account number and dash; CMC-7, another MICR set, uses different controls.
A U.S. Federal Reserve review dates the MICR program to 1956. Research labs developed it before the American Bankers Association standardized the character set. A 1967 Federal Reserve notice documents E-13B transit marks on checks. RFC 1345, a text-encoding guide, listed ⑆ by June 1992; ISO 1004:1995 standardized E-13B.
Technical; used in MICR check processing.
Sent alone, it gives no bank-routing information.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
