What ⑊ means
It is a technical OCR symbol, not a chat reaction.
Optical character recognition (OCR) is software that reads printed text. OCR-A began in the United States in 1961 as a numeric font; it expanded to letters and other signs in 1966.
ISO 1073-1 specifies OCR-A's printed shapes; ISO 2033 covers machine-readable codes. Unicode lists ⑊ separately under “OCR,” after OCR-A and magnetic-ink symbols used to read checks, so it is not part of the OCR-A repertoire.
Technical and obscure; its OCR label signals machine-reading context, not a familiar chat reaction.
If it arrives alone, ask what the sender intends before reading it as a reaction.
Don't confuse it with
1\\ Two ordinary backslashes are two characters; ⑊ is one dedicated OCR symbol.
Questions people ask
1Why does ⑊ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
