What Ⅵ means
Ⅵ is the one-character Roman numeral for six. Roman numeral VI combines V (five) and I (one); chapter VI has that value.
Roman numerals grew from Greek and Etruscan numeral traditions in Italy around 600–500 BCE. They recorded quantities and order, then spread across medieval Europe after Rome.
Why use Ⅵ instead of VI?
Use VI in ordinary text; use Ⅵ for a typographic form.
Unicode 17.0 encodes Ⅵ as a compatibility form of V followed by I; it stays upright in East Asian vertical text. Avoid it in identifiers, where lookalike letters can enable spoofing.

Questions people ask
1Why does Ⅵ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
