What Ⅴ means
Its first form is uncertain. Before about 500 BCE, Etruscan numeral signs resembling later Roman forms were in use; Rome’s sign for five is recorded as V.
Roman numerals recorded values in inscriptions, accounts, measures, and displays; counters handled calculations. Later they marked chapters, volumes, rulers, clocks, and memorials.
Is Ⅴ the same character as V?
No. Ⅴ and V are distinct characters. V is a Latin capital letter that also means five in Roman numerals.
Use V in ordinary writing. Ⅴ remains so East Asian text can keep a dedicated numeral and so it stays upright in vertical writing.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
