What 🖡 means
Use AltX in Word or CtrlShiftU in GNOME.
Microsoft Word's 2026 help says to type 1F5A1 and press AltX. GNOME's 2026 help says to press CtrlShiftU, type 1f5a1, then Space or Enter. If it appears as a box, the font cannot draw it. In HTML, use 🖡.
What does 🖡 mean in a message?
It points toward nearby text, but has no fixed reaction meaning.
Beside a link, label, or instruction, it can work as a “look here” marker. Sent alone, the hand leaves its target unclear; hand-gesture meanings can also vary across cultures, so use words when direction matters.
The design's documented lineage leads through Wingdings 2, a font set used to put pictographs into documents. The Wingdings family appeared in 1992. A 2011 Unicode proposal lists w-2073 in Wingdings 2's hand-symbol table; mapping tables associate that slot with 🖡. Unicode encoding lets the character travel without that font's private slot, though its drawn shape still depends on font support.
It reads like a document marker more than a familiar chat reaction.
Alone, it may leave the intended target or direction unclear.
