What 🈧 means
It is screen shorthand for 投手, the pitcher.
Baseball is one of Japan's most popular sports, and Japanese names for positions are written with kanji (Chinese-derived characters): 投手 for pitcher, 捕手 for catcher, 打者 for batter. On screen, a single character in a box does the job. Japan's digital-broadcasting standard, ARIB STD-B24 (1999), included a set of such boxed labels, and Unicode added them in 2009 so they had standard codes instead of private, maker-specific ones.
If you meet 🈧 outside a broadcast, in a message or a symbol list, read it the same way: pitcher.

3Questions people ask
2Why do I see an empty box instead of 🈧?
Your device has no font that includes it. It is a specialised text symbol, not an emoji; it is usually drawn by fonts made for Japanese, Chinese and Korean text.
Can 🈧 turn into plain 投?
Yes. Unicode's compatibility normalization (NFKC) replaces 🈧 with plain 投 and drops the box. Software that applies it will treat them as the same; whether a given search does depends on the service.
