Tangut Component 621

621/768

𘩬 is a Tangut component used to describe larger written characters; it is not a translated word by itself. You’ll mainly meet it in script study, structural notation, and font tests.

Text symbol

What 𘩬 means

It’s a Tangut structural piece, not a translated word.

The component system lets scholars index and analyze larger Tangut characters. An Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS)—a short string that lays out a character’s parts—can use component symbols to show their structure. It describes a character; it is not an ordinary sentence.

Created around 1036 for the Western Xia state, Tangut writing appears in official, private, and religious texts, including Buddhist works and translations of Chinese texts. It remained in use through the Yuan and Ming periods, then became obsolete. Chinese writing influenced Tangut’s layout and organizing ideas, but Tangut is a distinct script.

How do I type Tangut Component 621?

Use a Tangut input method or a Unicode escape in source.

In HTML, write 𘩬; in a Python Unicode string, use \U00018A6C. This character is outside the basic multilingual plane, so Python needs the eight-digit \U form.

Input and display are separate: the receiving font must include Tangut Components. A box means the font cannot draw this glyph; it does not change the character stored in the text.

Technical and specialist: it suits Tangut script study, IDS notation, and font testing.

Treat it as a structural label, not a word to translate by itself.

Why is Tangut Component 621 showing as a box?

The font is missing the glyph. The Unicode character is still present; use a font that covers Tangut Components.

Is Tangut Component 621 a Chinese radical?

No. It belongs to Tangut component notation. “Radical” can also mean a dictionary filing unit in Tangut; that does not make this a Chinese component.
