What 𗁄 means
It is a Tangut word-character for fatigue.
In the Tangut language, it names being worn out or tired. Tangut is the extinct language and its historical script; the writing is also called Xixia script after the Western Xia state. If 𗁄 arrives alone in an ordinary message, treat it as a Tangut or historical-script reference, not a clear “I’m tired” update. Ask for context before assigning it that meaning.
Why was Tangut script created?
It began as a state script for Western Xia.
Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor. The earliest surviving example identified in modern scholarship is an official document sent to a military official at Guazhou in 1072.
The state used it for administration and culture: records, orders, literature, and translations. Chinese writing continued alongside it, and Tangut script also marked Tangut political identity. After the Mongol conquest, Tangut continued in use during the Yuan and Ming periods before becoming obsolete; surviving texts include official, private, and religious works.
Why does this Tangut glyph look Chinese?
Its Chinese-like forms do not make it a Chinese character.
Tangut is sometimes called a siniform script: its square, brush-based conventions resemble those familiar from Chinese writing. But Tangut and Chinese are separate scripts and cannot be read as each other. Tangut was historically written top to bottom in vertical columns ordered right to left; scholarly editions usually print it horizontally from left to right. The layout changes, not 𗁄’s word meaning.
Khitan and Jurchen are separate scripts from the same broader medieval state-script setting. One scholarly account suggests Tangut development may have looked to Khitan models, but that influence is tentative; no direct ancestry for 𗁄 is established. Its shape alone does not reveal a Chinese pronunciation.
Historical and scholarly, or deliberately obscure; it is not ordinary casual-chat shorthand.
A blank square means the font cannot display Tangut; the character itself may still be intact.

Questions people ask
2Why is 𗁄 a blank square?
It can be. A font without Tangut support may show an empty square; the underlying text can still contain 𗁄.
Can I use 𗁄 to say I’m tired?
Not reliably. Its historical Tangut sense is “fatigue,” but an unexplained character from an extinct script is unlikely to work as a plain-language status update.
