What 𗂴 means

It is a Tangut character; Unicode doesn't give its word meaning. The code-point label is only an identifier; a Tangut word gloss comes from historical dictionaries, not from the label.

In 1036, Tangut ruler Li Yuanhao ordered this writing system as part of state-building and assigned his official Yeli Renrong to develop it. A major purpose was likely a Tangut collection of Buddhist scriptures.

A manuscript fragment found at Khara-khoto in Inner Mongolia, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, is a Tangut translation of a Chinese collection of short stories about conduct. It shows the script was also used for secular writing.

Why does its Unicode label say “Ideograph-170B4”?

Unicode's Tangut labels identify code points, not words. “Ideograph-170B4” is a mechanical label made from the script name and this character's code point, not a Tangut pronunciation or meaning. Historical readings and dictionary glosses are recorded separately.

Tangut character forms were visually inspired by Chinese writing, and the script followed the earlier example of neighboring Khitan peoples, who had developed scripts of their own. Tangut remained a distinct writing system for the Tangut language.

A structural description places component 𘠁 on 𗂴's left and 𘫨 on its right. These pieces show how the glyph is assembled; they are not its translation.

Historical and specialist; the surrounding context needs to identify Tangut for readers to interpret it as text.

Its code-point label and component shapes do not reveal its Tangut word meaning.

Why does 𗂴 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
