Tangut character 𗂻

188/6136

𗂻 has no fixed chat meaning; it is a historical Tangut character. Tangut texts served Western Xia religious, official, and literary life, and the script continued in manuscripts after the kingdom fell. As of 2026, a scholarly reconstruction records its reading as dwej¹; that specialist spelling is not an English translation.

What 𗂻 means

It has a reconstructed reading, but no fixed chat meaning.

𗂻 is one character in Tangut writing, a historical script for the Tangut language. Its Unicode name identifies it for computers; it does not translate the Tangut word.

A community-maintained LFW2008 data table gives the scholarly reconstruction dwej¹. That specialist Latin spelling records a reconstructed reading, not an English definition; the digitized dictionary index marks entry 2922 as a cross-reference, so do not turn it into a guessed gloss.

Why does 𗂻 look Chinese?

It was inspired by Chinese writing, but it is a separate script.

Tangut writing emerged as a state project around 1036 CE under Western Xia rule. It served the Tangut language, Buddhist scripture translation, and a distinct political identity.

Its forms and structure were inspired by Chinese writing traditions, but Tangut is not derived from Han characters. Surviving material includes Buddhist books, official and legal texts, inscriptions, and Chinese translations. After Western Xia fell, the script continued in Yuan and Ming religious and manuscript contexts, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming period.

Will it display correctly?

Only a font with Tangut coverage can draw it reliably.

This is a text character, so its appearance comes from the active font. If that font lacks Tangut coverage, the message may show a missing-glyph box; adding coverage fixes display but cannot reveal an unknown reading.

The Rime Xunpin project documents phonetic, stroke, and four-corner input for Tangut and requires a Tangut font. That is a specialist input route, not a normal phone-keyboard shortcut.

Historical and specialist; it signals interest in the script, not a conventional emotional tone.

Do not turn dwej¹ or its shape into a confident English gloss.
