What 𗃄 means
It is glossed as “fat” or “grease.”
The Tangut script took shape around 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao as a writing system for the Tangut language. Its design drew on Chinese writing traditions but represented a different language. Tangut writing survives in Buddhist texts and printed works from the late twelfth century onward, including materials made after Western Xia fell in 1227.
Is 𗃄 Chinese, and what does it mean in a message?
It is Tangut, not Chinese; alone, its intent is unclear.
Although Tangut's square, brush-written design draws on Chinese writing traditions, it represents a separate language; 𗃄 is not a Chinese character or a variant of one. If someone sends this glyph alone, its dictionary gloss cannot tell you whether they mean the word, are discussing Tangut, or have another purpose. Do not treat the bare gloss as a comment about your body.
As of 2026, Tangut is studied as a historical script rather than used for everyday conversation.
A lone 𗃄 does not prove someone is calling you “fat”; the word’s dictionary gloss is not evidence of an insult.

1Why does Tangut show as a box?
As of 2026, the active font may lack Tangut coverage, so the character appears as an empty box. Choose a Tangut-capable font; changing the character’s code point cannot supply missing glyph data.

𗃄\170C4Why is 𗃄 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
