Tangut character 17142

323/6136

What 𗅂 means

As of 2026, its English meaning remains unresolved despite a reconstructed reading. Li Fanwen's 2008 reconstruction transcribes its historical reading as rjar¹; this is a scholarly estimate of an old Tangut sound, not a modern spoken pronunciation. The Tangut script's origin tradition dates its design to 1036 for the administration and culture of Western Xia, a Tangut kingdom. Its use continued on religious monuments after Western Xia fell in 1227; the last-known example of Tangut writing is dated 1502. Tangut uses Chinese-style strokes but is a distinct script. Jurchen writing is a separate system historically linked to Khitan writing.

It belongs to historical writing; its reading survives as a scholarly reconstruction.

If someone sends 𗅂 alone, ask for context; its reconstructed reading does not explain why they chose it.
