What 𗇄 means
Tangut lexicons gloss 𗇄 as “sprinkle,” “spread,” “scatter,” or “break.” Around 1036, Western Xia developed Tangut writing to record its language and establish a distinct written identity. The script drew on Chinese writing but remained distinct. A 12th century Tangut homophone dictionary records this character; such a dictionary groups entries by pronunciation. Scholars reconstruct its sound differently.
