What 𗊃 means
One reconstruction gives mur¹; it does not establish a gloss. The English Wiktionary entry listed reconstructed readings but left the definition open in January 2025. Treat mur¹ as scholarly notation for a reconstructed reading, not as a translation.
The earliest record cited for this glyph is a 12th-century entry in the Tangut dictionary Tóngyīn (“Homophones”), which groups characters by sound. That dates the surviving evidence, not the character’s origin.
Why was the Tangut script created?
The Tangut state created it for government and cultural life. Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 for official correspondence and a distinct state identity; a state committee for Buddhist sutra translation was formed in 1038. The state is also known as Western Xia or Xixia.
Tangut writing was inspired by Chinese character shapes and composition principles, but it did not derive from Chinese. Khitan neighbors had created two scripts about a century earlier; one was largely based on Chinese writing. Tangut texts include Buddhist works, Chinese books, Tibetan translations, and original writing.
Why does 𗊃 show as a box?
Your font lacks a Tangut glyph. Unicode can store 𗊃 even when an app’s selected font cannot draw it. Choose a font with Tangut coverage; the box is a display problem, not a different character.

No. Tangut writing records the Tangut language. Its character forms were inspired by Chinese writing, but the two scripts represent different languages.
