What 𗋩 means
It is the Tangut character for “rain.” Tangut is an extinct language with its own writing system, used by the Western Xia state. Its characters can resemble Chinese writing, but the systems are distinct.
The Tangut script was created under the first Western Xia emperor around 1036 to give the state its own writing system. It appeared in official, private, and religious texts. It remained in use after Western Xia ended and was obsolete by the end of China's Ming dynasty. It developed alongside the Khitan and Jurchen state scripts, distinct systems from Chinese writing.
A historical character encountered mainly in scholarship and preservation.
Without Tangut context, readers may not recognize “rain.”
