What 𗌢 means
𗌢 is a character in the Tangut script.
A Tangut dictionary indexes this exact glyph, but gives no secure standalone English gloss for it. Read it through surrounding Tangut text; its square shape alone is not enough to identify a word.
Why does 𗌢 look Chinese?
Its square design follows Chinese-style writing traditions, not Chinese vocabulary.
Tangut writing was developed for the Tangut language in the Western Xia kingdom during the 11th century. Its square forms are built from components and draw on the Chinese-character tradition, but Tangut is a separate script; resemblance does not give 𗌢 a Chinese reading.
The script served state, literary, and religious life. Finds from Khara-Khoto include Tangut Buddhist manuscripts and books printed from carved wooden blocks. The earliest dated Buddhist book in that collection is from 1084; that dates a book, not a documented first use of 𗌢.
A historical-script character; in casual chat, it reads as a character sample rather than a clear message.

Questions people ask
2Did Tangut writing survive after Western Xia?
Yes. Buddhist inscriptions continued after the state's fall; a pair of stone pillars bearing dhāraṇī, Buddhist ritual texts, was erected in 1502.
Why does 𗌢 show as a box?
If the font lacks Tangut coverage, the character may appear as an empty box or another fallback glyph.
