Tangut character 𗍲

883/6136

𗍲 is a Tangut character, and its meaning needs a dictionary entry or surrounding sentence. Tangut writing served Xixia (Western Xia), Buddhist books, and later religious texts. A box means the font lacks Tangut coverage.

What 𗍲 means

No dependable one-word English gloss is established as of 2026. 𗍲 appears in the 12th-century Tangut dictionaries Wénhǎi (“Sea of Writing”) and Tóngyīn (“Homophones”). Their reconstructed readings need a sentence or passage to settle the sense.

Tangut writing was created around 1036 for Western Xia and used in schools, records, and Buddhist books. That date is for the script, not this character. Its forms drew visual inspiration from Chinese writing but represented a distinct language and script. After Western Xia fell, Tangut remained in religious texts; the latest known inscription is dated 1502.

1

Why does 𗍲 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
