What 𗏖 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “a surname.”
Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary records that gloss at entry L2796; it is a word meaning, not a general marker for family names.
Tangut ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 to strengthen Western Xia, set it apart from Song China and translate Buddhist texts. Tangut characters drew on Chinese writing’s appearance and structure, but the script did not derive from Chinese. Tangut texts also carried Confucian classics, military works, encyclopedias and literature. A rubbing of an inscription dated 1094—a paper print made from its surface—appears to include 𗏖.
How should I read 𗏖 in a message?
Treat a lone character as a sample of Tangut writing.
If it appears as a blank box, the font lacks Tangut support.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗏖 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
