What 𗑻 means
Its Tangut dictionary gloss is “joint.”
The Tangut dictionary Sea of Writing lists it at 69.251; Li Fanwen’s dictionary gives it entry 4725.
The Tangut script arose in the 11th century for official writing and translations of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist texts in Western Xia, a kingdom in today’s northwestern China. Chinese writing influenced its forms, but Tangut is a distinct script; its characters are generally not direct borrowings from Chinese or Khitan, another medieval East Asian script. After everyday use ended, it became a subject of historical study.
Historical and scholarly, not conversational.
Chinese influence shaped its forms; this is a Tangut character, not a Chinese one.
