What 𗒧 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “to cut off.”
Around 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script as part of state-building. Tangut writing includes Buddhist scriptures, Chinese and Tibetan translations, and legal and literary texts. It continued under Yuan and Ming rule. Through 2025, the latest known dated Tangut text is a Buddhist inscription from 1502.
Tangut is a separate script, though Chinese writing influenced its shapes and how its characters are built. The neighboring Khitan people’s earlier scripts were a regional model for creating another writing system. Historical sources show Tangut glyph variants; Unicode treats them as one character when a source did not use the forms to distinguish entries.

1Why does 𗒧 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
