Tangut Character 174C7

1224/6136

A Tangut–Chinese dictionary links 𗓇 to 袱, a cloth wrapper. The Tangut (Xixia) script was created around 1036 to write the Tangut language and distinguish its state from Song China. It drew on Chinese writing and followed its Khitan neighbors, whose scripts were created about a century earlier. It appeared in Buddhist texts and translations from Chinese, then remained in use beyond Western Xia into the Ming era.

Why does 𗓇 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
