tangut ideograph-17501

Tangut character 17501

1282/6136

𗔁 is a Tangut (Xixia) script character; its Unicode name is only an inventory label, so a Tangut dictionary or surrounding text is needed to identify its word meaning. Created around 1036 for the Tangut language and Western Xia’s official use, the script was modeled on Chinese characters but represented a different language. It continued in Buddhist printing under the Yuan after 1227. Display requires a Tangut-capable font.

Why does 𗔁 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
