It means “yak” in the Tangut language.
Why was Tangut script created?
To write the Tangut language for Western Xia.
Created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor, the script wrote Tangut, the language of a northwestern Chinese state. It served official, private, and religious texts. After the Mongol conquest, Tangut writing continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming. Books, Buddhist scriptures, inscriptions, and manuscripts preserve it.
Is this Chinese?
No; 𗗵 is Tangut, not Chinese.
Its many strokes resemble Chinese characters, but Tangut is a separate writing system. 𗗵 is not a Chinese character or a substitute for one.
