Tangut Character 176FF

1792/6136

𗛿 is the Tangut word for “song.” Tangut was spoken in Western Xia, a kingdom in northwest China. Its script was created around 1036 for writing Tangut and appears in official, private, and religious texts. It remained in use after the kingdom fell in 1227, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Unicode’s name is a code-point label, not a translation.

Text symbol

What 𗛿 means

It means “song” in Tangut. Here it is a noun for a song, not a singer or an instruction to sing.

Is 𗛿 a Chinese character?

No; 𗛿 belongs to Tangut. Its square forms resemble Chinese characters, but Tangut is a separate script for another language. Its designers adapted Chinese character-building methods; that does not make this word readable as Chinese.

Why is 𗛿 a box on my screen?

It’s a font issue: your app may not include Tangut glyphs. Use a Tangut-capable font; the character is text, not emoji artwork.
