What 𗜶 means
Its Unicode name is an identifier, not a dictionary gloss.
Western Xia, a medieval state in northwestern China, created Tangut around 1036 for government, Buddhist scripture, and an identity distinct from the Song dynasty. Tangut followed Chinese writing principles; neighboring Khitan kingdoms had already created their own state scripts. Surviving books include Buddhist texts, Chinese translations, and moral, Confucian, military, and literary works. It remained in use through the Yuan and Ming periods, then became obsolete.
A historical character with a scholarly, typographic feel.
