Tangut Character 177A1

1954/6136

𗞡 is a Tangut character, not Chinese; one reconstruction reads it as pio¹. Developed in stages and standardized around 1036, Tangut writing served state correspondence and Buddhist translation, drawing on Chinese forms and probably Khitan models. It outlived Western Xia: Buddhist inscriptions at Baoding date to 1502.

What 𗞡 means

It gives a reconstructed sound, not a translation.

The form pio¹ estimates how the Tangut character was pronounced. Its place in a sentence depends on the surrounding Tangut text.
