What 𗞷 means
It names a fortified place.
Scholars reconstruct its Tangut reading as kiwan.
Why was Tangut writing created?
Western Xia rulers commissioned it for government and translation.
Western Xia was a state ruled by the Tanguts in what is now northwestern China. Its founder, Li Yuanhao, ordered a writing system for the Tangut language, and court scholar Yeli Renrong and others developed it. The script served government and translation and gave the state a distinct written identity; it became official writing around 1036. Written records survive from the late twelfth and thirteenth centuries, including after Western Xia fell in 1227.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗞷 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
