Tangut Ideograph 17802

2051/6136

Scholars reconstruct the Tangut pronunciation of 𗠂 as dzjo, a form of “eat” used in “I eat it.” The Tangut script was commissioned in 1036 for Western Xia, a Tangut kingdom, to write its language; its characters followed Chinese brush-writing but were distinct from Chinese characters. It carried government records and Buddhist texts; after Xia fell in 1227, a 1502 Buddhist memorial pillar in Baoding shows it remained in use.

Why does 𗠂 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
