What 𗣆 means
𗣆 means “to rely on” or “to depend on.”
A Tangut dictionary index records the reconstructed Tangut reading as tha and glosses it as “to rely on.” Tha is a scholarly Latin transcription, not an English pronunciation guide; the gloss names a word, not a picture or general emblem.
The Tangut script was created in 1036–1037 for writing the Tangut language. The earliest surviving Tangut document is dated 1072. The script appears in state records, Buddhist translations, laws, household registers, and contracts; an inscription dated 1502 shows its later use.
Why can't I type or see 𗣆?
It needs Tangut input support and a font that covers the script.
Typing and display are separate jobs: an input tool enters the character, while a Tangut font draws its strokes. A blank or box usually means the active font lacks Tangut coverage.
How is Tangut script connected to Khitan writing?
Tangut is distinct; proposed Khitan influence remains disputed.
Tangut developed in a Chinese-influenced writing environment alongside systems used by neighboring states, including Khitan and Jurchen. Khitan influence on Tangut has been proposed, but the degree of graphic influence is disputed. This is a history of the script as a whole, not evidence of a direct counterpart for 𗣆 in another script.
