What 𗧭 means
A Tangut dictionary lists it as a surname.
Unicode names it “Tangut Ideograph-179ED”; its character chart cross-references Li Fanwen entry L2008-2235, glossed “a surname.”
Is 𗧭 a Chinese character?
No; it belongs to the Tangut script.
Its square forms resemble Chinese writing, but Tangut is a separate script for another language.
Where did Tangut writing come from?
The Western Xia court created it around 1036.
Emperor Li Yuanhao commissioned it for Tangut, his kingdom’s language, and its official and cultural life. Tangut texts include government, private, and Buddhist works.
After Western Xia fell to Mongol armies in 1227, Tangut writing continued during the Yuan and Ming dynasties, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
