What 𗩱 means
It is a Tangut character with a reconstructed reading.
Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary records njwi² as its scholarly reconstructed reading; that notation is not a translation.
𘃭𗩱 is a recorded two-character expression reconstructed as kho₂ nwi₄ and translated “skilful.” That translation belongs to the expression, so it cannot be assigned to 𗩱 alone without more context.
When did people begin writing Tangut?
Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036.
Yeli Renrong is associated with its model forms. The script gave the Tangut-led Western Xia state a distinct written identity and was used for Buddhist texts, including a Tangut Buddhist canon.
Tangut manuscripts from Khara-khoto, probably dated to the 12th or early 13th century, show the script in use later on. After Western Xia fell, people continued writing Tangut in Buddhist and other texts. Its design drew inspiration from Chinese writing and neighboring Khitan script traditions, but it was made to write the Tangut language.
Why does 𗩱 show as a square?
The selected font lacks Tangut support.
Select a Tangut-capable font in the app or document. Without one, the font may substitute a missing-glyph box; changing the character will not fix the font.
Historical and scholarly; difficult to read outside Tangut contexts.

1Why does 𗩱 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
