What 𗪽 means
“To gather” is a cautious gloss; the reading is disputed.
One lexicon links it to *bur¹ and glosses it “to gather”; another lists *khjij for the same entry. These are rival reconstructions—scholarly estimates of how an older Tangut word sounded. Their Latin-letter forms are notation, not simple pronunciation guides.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It served Western Xia’s government and Buddhist writing.
Created by imperial order around 1036 for Western Xia, a state in present-day northwestern China, Tangut resembles Chinese writing but is a separate script. Its traditional layout ran top to bottom in columns ordered right to left; it remained in use under the Yuan and Ming after Western Xia fell.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in discussions of Tangut writing, language, or history.

1Why does 𗪽 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
