What 𗫂 means
It marks the phrase the Tangut sentence is about.
In Tangut grammar, this is a topic marker: a small particle that flags what the sentence is discussing. Another grammatical analysis calls it the logical-subject marker. In plain English, its cue is “as for …”.
What does a lone 𗫂 mean?
It is a character sample, not a full translation. A standalone 𗫂 shows which grammatical form someone sent, but it does not supply the phrase the particle marks. If translation matters, ask for the surrounding Tangut line.
Is 𗫂 Chinese?
No. It belongs to the Tangut language and script. The Tangut-led Western Xia state commissioned the script in 1036 as part of building its administration. It supported Tangut records and translations, including a Buddhist canon—a large collection of scriptures.
The script drew on principles of Chinese writing but was made for Tangut, a different language. Khitan influence on how Tangut's complex characters were assembled is possible, but that connection is debated.
The earliest surviving example is an official dispatch to a military official in Guazhou, dated 1072. A Tangut inscription dated 1502 shows the script in use long after Western Xia ended.
Historical and grammatical; it belongs in Tangut text or writing about Tangut.
Chinese 者 is a translation gloss, not a replacement for 𗫂.

1Why does 𗫂 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
