What 𗱃 means

A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗱃 as “east”; another analysis gives “end.” One index labels the character L0827.

Western Xia’s first emperor established the Tangut script around 1036 to write Tangut and give the state its own written culture. It drew on Chinese writing but remained distinct.

Tangut texts served official, private, and religious purposes. Writing continued into the Yuan and Ming periods before the script became obsolete. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century.

Why does 𗱃 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
