What 𗲂 means
It is glossed “to bake” in Tangut.
A specialist Tangut dictionary lists this entry as L1228 and glosses it “to bake.” The number in the character’s Unicode name is only an identifier, not a translation.
The Tangut script was officially created in 1036 for Western Xia state-building. It gave the Tangut language a written form and marked political and cultural independence. A scholarly history identifies an official document from 1072 as the earliest transmitted example. Surviving texts include Buddhist works, legal documents, and secular translations.
Is 𗲂 Chinese?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate historical script.
Tangut script developed in a Chinese-influenced setting and uses some of the same stroke types as Chinese writing. But it wrote a different language and followed its own character-building principles; resemblance alone does not make 𗲂 Chinese.
The Western Xia state fell in 1227, but Tangut writing continued for centuries. An inscription dated 1502 is cited as the script’s latest known example.
